When we planned our FY 2024-25 budget, we anticipated roof repairs for the St. Elizabeth church and rectory. $100,000 was allocated for this purpose. However, upon closer inspection during the summer months, it became clear that our century-old roofs were beyond repair and in need of replacement.

THE CHALLENGE

Initial Budget: $100,000 for roof repair
Actual Need: $530,000 to replace the church and rectory roofs

This left us with a shortfall of $430,000. Instead of dipping into savings or taking loans, we launched a fundraising campaign to cover the difference. 

COMMUNITY RESPONSE

Thanks to the incredible generosity and support from our community, we’ve successfully raised the additional $430,000 needed beyond what was budgeted in FY 2024-2025! Your contributions have been instrumental, and we are deeply grateful.

NEW GOAL: MAXIMIZING YOUR DONATIONS

While the roof project itself has been fully funded, we now aim to collect the originally budgeted $100,000 through restricted donations. Here’s why this matters:

“Tax” Benefits: Restricted donations for specific projects like the roof are exempt from the cathedraticum, which is essentially a tax levied by the Archdiocese on parish revenues. The rate for parish revenue hovers around 7%, and all parishes in the Archdiocese have been notified that this will increase in upcoming fiscal years.

Savings: By using restricted donations for the initial $100,000 budgeted in FY 2024-2025 for roof work, we save approximately $7,000 in cathedraticum “tax”. This totals over $37,000 in savings for the entire project through the exemption from the cathedraticum.

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

Reallocate Your Offering: Many of our parishioners have chosen to redirect their regular Sunday offerings to this project without increasing their total giving until we have reached the $100,000 goal, which will be spent on the roof project. After this week’s pledges, we have collected $58,507 towards our new goal. Only $41,493 remains to reach it!

Cash or Check: Use the donation envelopes placed in the pews. Please make checks payable to "St. Elizabeth Congregation" and write "Roof Project" in the memo. Drop these into the Offertory collection baskets or return them to the DTKC office.
