On Holy Saturday in April 2022, we received a call that someone vandalized the crucifix at St. Casimir Cemetery. Since then, we formulated and executed a plan to revitalize that existing space.
I am pleased to announce that the project is finally complete. The new statues have been erected and a new concrete wall has been poured, which incorporates the historic stone that was once above the front door at the entrance of St. Casimir Church on Washington Road. Additionally, a concrete platform was also installed to serve as a more dignified place to offer the outdoor Masses said there.
I want to thank Bill Koenes for making this a reality for us. I would also like to extend my gratitude to T. H. Stemper Co. for their assistance in acquiring the new statues. As always, Molly Hatfield, Claims/Risk Manager from Catholic Mutual Group, was quick to respond and help us figure out a viable replacement solution.
If you have the opportunity to drive to St. Casimir Cemetery, make sure you stop by and see it. While you are there, please pray for your fellow parishioners – both living and deceased.
We previously celebrated the Nativity of St. John the Baptist bonfire at that cemetery, but we now have a wonderful landscape at St. James—a perfect place for parish celebrations such as this. I am very much looking forward to having our bonfire there for the first time this weekend.
I hope to see you on Sunday, June 23 for the bonfire. Join us at 6:00 p.m. Prayers will begin at 6:30 p.m. and food will immediately follow. The parishes are supplying hot dogs, buns, and the appropriate accouterments. Please bring something to share. Don’t forget your lawn chair!
