Each one of us possesses varied talents, abilities, and interests; however, we all share a common responsibility: to be active members of Christ’s Church. A good steward takes this responsibility seriously and commits to put their talent to work.
Talent cannot be segregated from the concept of time. Time is our most precious currency. We cannot create time. It is a finite resource for all of us. Where do you choose to spend your time? Do you use any of your time to give back to God? We devote our time to what is important to us.
I am asking you – imploring you – to prayerfully discern where God is calling you to serve the downtown Catholic community so that you may wisely use your time and talents in forming and strengthening one another as disciples of Christ. I encourage you as strongly as I am able – a proverbial arm-twisting, if you will – to try a new ministry that challenges you this year.
Extroverted? Join one of the usher teams! Did you know that we have so few of them that most ushers serve every weekend out of dire need? Ushers are the “faces” of the parishes who warmly greet each congregant and are helpful toward visitors.
Perhaps, you always wanted to join an adult bible study or our new Faith and Reason ministry.
Between the ages of 18-29? Please consider participating in our young adult ministry, Renewal in Christ, which is being re-launched this fall.
Maybe, you are retired and would like to assist the office staff with answering phones and small clerical tasks one morning/afternoon each week.
Do you have a passion for gardening? We need helping hands to occasionally plant graveside flowers on behalf of elderly or infirmed parishioners and clean up debris on gravesites following strong storms.
Are you called to bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound?
Are you a good singer? The St. Elizabeth Choir always accepts new choristers and the St. James Schola is actively looking for a strong, independent alto voice.
Love attending parish events? Consider helping behind the scenes! Our new Oktoberfest celebration, Eric Genuis concert, and the annual variety show are coming up quickly.
We need you in ministry! The Downtown Kenosha Catholic parishes provide a host of opportunities to serve Christ. I look forward to the upcoming programmatic year and hope all of you become involved in a capacity in ministry. See you all at Mass!
