On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, there was a fire in the convent building on the St. Elizabeth campus (4816 7th Avenue), which housed the DTKC parish and cemetery offices, convent/the sisters, and chapel. The investigation has not been completed, so additional details are not available at this time.
Thanks be to God, no one was injured. We were able to salvage important items (parish and cemetery records, some furniture, personal belongings, etc.) before the building was boarded up. A huge note of gratitude to everyone who was on hand to assist with moving everything over from the old office to the school building so that we may continue to serve you with as little of an interruption as possible.
Unfortunately, the convent building sustained such damage that we are relocating the offices immediately to the school building next door (714 49th Street). We will be on the second floor of the atrium entrance on 49th Street. Please make an appointment via email if you need to meet with our staff. This allows us to best fulfill your requests and get you our undivided attention.
We ask that you please do not call the parish office at this time unless it is an emergency. Please continue to email the appropriate staff member so we may return your messages. Thank you in advance for allowing extra time in responding to your inquiries.
During this time, let us reflect not on the tragedy of the fire but on all of the blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon us. We have work to do in building the Kingdom of God, and we will not be stopped by this devastating fire.
Thank you in advance for your prayers as we build a better and stronger Downtown Kenosha Catholic community. We appreciate everyone who has reached out to us and offered to help in many ways.
Father all-powerful, your gifts of love are countless and your goodness infinite. We come before you with gratitude for your kindness. You have shown us the depths of your love for all your children. Help us, we pray, to reach out in love to all your people, so that we may share with them the good things of time and eternity.
