The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God — the welcoming into Christ’s Church. At our parishes, parents preparing to have their child baptized will receive instructions to take an online class “Reborn” on our Catholic Online FORMED channel. Our Faith Formation Director will meet personally with parents to discuss the program and review the requirements for Baptism.
This is a beautiful time for families, which allows for children to be welcomed into the Church and for parents to express their desire to raise their children in the faith.
Things to keep in mind in planning for baptism.
- The child’s Godparents must consist of at least one baptized and confirmed Catholic at least 16 years old; the other may be a baptized Christian.
- The child’s Godparents can’t have more than one man and one woman.
