The Sacrament of Baptism marks the beginning of a lifelong commitment to Christ. Humanity fell away from God when Adam and Eve committed the first sin. Original sin is what the Church calls this falling away from God. Baptism washes away that brokenness and gives the baptized the Holy Spirit. During baptism, we are also welcomed into Christ’s Church. Baptism is the first step for someone becoming Catholic at any age. We experience and celebrate the grace of God through this Sacrament. Catholics are asked to baptize their children soon after the child’s birth because of how necessary baptism is for our salvation.
Parents wanting to baptize their children can fill out this form. The baptismal sponsor (Godparent) should fill out this form. Both forms should be returned to the parish office.
Our program includes a meeting with Louisa Postlewait, our Religious Education Coordinator. After that meeting, parents will be taught through an online program called Reborn. We request 3 months of your preparation before baptism. The adult process to baptism looks different. Our RCIA program helps adults become baptized. RCIA includes classes to help adults understand Catholicism. Inquiring adults should fill out the form on the RCIA page or contact the parish office with questions.
This is a beautiful time for families. Families show their promise to raise their children in the Catholic faith through baptism.
Regarding Godparents:
- Only practicing, Confirmed Catholics over 16 years of age can be Godparents.
- The child cannot have more than one male and one female Godparent.
Please contact the parish office 262-657-1156 with any questions.
