A good usher helps the congregation feel welcomed, answers questions, and keeps the liturgy safe and orderly. We have ushers at all weekend Masses, arriving 30 minutes before the start of the Mass. Our ushers can be identified by their color-coordinated blazers at each parish, and they can get you information or help you in case of emergency!
In order to accomplish all the important things listed above, our parishes need a lot of ushers. Each Mass has 4 ushers, and we strive to maintain a rotating schedule so that ushers do not have to serve in this capacity every week! Ushers must be reverent Mass attendees and have welcoming personalities. They must be comfortable interacting with parishioners and visitors. Ushers should be clean, polite, and good at following instructions. Inexperienced or new ushers are welcome to sign up. Training is provided to give ushers confidence while serving in this capacity. If you want to be an usher at St. Elizabeth or St. James, reach out to our office to get on the list for training!
